Our History

Great Western Tree Care began doing business on January 1st, 2018. The founder and president, Chad Szpunar, moved to Castle Rock, CO in 2014 upon selling his company “Chad’s Tree & Shrub Service in Albuquerque, NM that he started in 2006. After moving to Colorado in 2014 Chad went to work for a large company in Denver and then worked as a contract climber for a couple of local companies. Colorado opened a whole new world of tree care for Chad. He was surrounded by the best climbers and arborists in the Rocky Mountain Region. Chad has always been a bit of a sponge, soaking up knowledge wherever it presents itself, and quickly due to the help of certain mentors and friends in the Colorado tree community he quickly realized he could build a company here in Colorado that could be great.

Year one was a challenge. Chad and one employee, Morgan Burnett, who today remains his lead guy, ran for most of the year with a trailer and a truck. However, towards the end of that first year we were able to purchase a chip truck and chipper and bring a few more employees on. Also, in that first year Chads wife Stephanie was able to leave her job at the bank and join in on the effort. Today she is the heart and soul of the company. We have been blessed grow at an exponential rate only because of our wonderful employees, managers we’ve built relationships with, customers who have put their faith in us, and the grace of God. Today, we are a driving force that has earned the respect of its competitors for providing proper tree care in Douglas County and its surrounding areas.
